My Story

Hello, I’m Michaela, founder of House of Lexden, an interior designer working across Essex, Suffolk and further afield.

I have always been drawn to art, design and architecture, and my love for interiors has been a constant throughout my life. I studied Film at degree level before going on to study Interior Design, bringing together creativity, storytelling and spatial awareness in the way I approach every project.

I moved to North Essex in 2008, where I started a family and undertook a large renovation project of my own home. This experience shaped my understanding of how a home needs to function in real life, and how spaces evolve as families grow and lifestyles change.

Before moving into interior design, I worked in music and film, later running my own successful London-based television agency. As a Television Agent, I specialised in matching Researchers, Producers and Directors to the right projects across channels including BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

This experience shaped the way I work today. I see design as a form of matchmaking, bringing together people, spaces and objects in a way that feels natural, considered and completely personal.

I believe a home should reflect the people who live in it, a collection of pieces that hold meaning, evoke memories and create a sense of comfort and belonging.

I am particularly drawn to antique and vintage furniture, and love to mix old and new to create spaces with depth, character and individuality.

"Michaela’s sense of style is obvious, and she is warm and enthusiastic to work with on project designs"

My style is classic and timeless, with a modern edge, blending considered design with unexpected details that bring personality to a space. Creating calm, considered interiors, with a subtle edge of personality.

Or, as I often describe it…

Classic Design, With A Touch of Rock and Roll
