THE BRIEF

A walk-through living space that opened onto the dining room, but felt disconnected from the heart of the home. The client wanted it reimagined as somewhere genuinely inviting — a warm, comfortable room where her family and children could relax and gather, with the flexibility of a sofa bed for visiting relatives. She also hoped to weave in a quiet reference to her Indian heritage, without it ever feeling obvious.

THE DESIGN

The priority was connection and comfort, turning a space people simply passed through into a room they wanted to stay in. The scheme was designed to flow naturally from the kitchen and dining area, so the lounge finally felt like part of the home rather than separate from it. Comfort led every decision, creating a relaxed, family-friendly space, with a sofa bed quietly built in for when relatives come to stay. Heritage was handled with subtlety: rather than anything literal, the design left room for personal pieces , textiles and artwork the client sources on her own travels back to India so the room could grow more personal over time and tell her family’s story in its own quiet way.

THE RESULT

The result is a warm, welcoming room that finally feels connected to the home around it comfortable enough for everyday family life, flexible enough for visiting relatives, and personal in a way that’s felt rather than announced.
